Success Lemonade Comes to the Internet Marketing BBQ

Happy Memorial Day, everybody! The smell of charcoal carcinogens is in the air, and it's gotten me thirsty.

In this industry, it's truly a rare and beautiful thing to encounter fresh perspectives and honest, original, personality-driven training.

I've been consuming marketing training guides, coaching programs, and ebooks for years. And to be frank, I feel like I'm eating hot dogs for every meal. (bah-dum-ching!)

Enter Jonathan Budd.

Just when I thought I was DONE signing up for people's email lists, watching so-called gurus hash out the same boring advice on YouTube videos, and shopping around in vain for ebooks with something new to say about success...

...along comes this KID (I think he's my little sister's age -- Jonathan are you single? haha), who's clearly had his cake and eaten it too, knows a thing or two about a thing or two (particularly the Reverse Funnel System), AND has some fresh perspective and ideas to contribute.

I'm not going to push his MLM training program here. To be honest, you'll get a ton of advice out of just reading the emails he sends out for free, seemingly whenever he gets a bit of inspiration, which you can sign up for here:

These are not lame, stale "sales letters", though Mr. Budd is certainly interested in selling you his MLM Mastermind program. These emails (and videos -- take a look below for my favorite one) are like a sip of lemonade on a hot day. Refreshing, that's what I'd call it.

So do yourself and your business a favor: stop eating wienies and go get a lemonade. I mean, go refresh your perspective!

Leads: Bring Out Your Dead!

What does any successful MLM business need above all? A steady stream of leads. What kind of leads? LIVE ONES.

Okay, you've got me in my Comfy Chair, so I confess: I'm a huge Monty Python fan. Nerd. Geek. Whatever you want to call me.

I say, if you haven't seen, loved, and lived Monty Python's Quest for the Holy Grail, then you haven't seen, loved, or lived. Harrumph! Well I'm not too cranky to share with you this YouTube clip of this blog entry's titular scene:

Right, leads!

Too often, we in network marketing go hunting for good business leads in barren lead-picked wastelands.

Here's a typical story: you sign up for some local "home business networking" meeting, all excited to be bringing your shiny new MLM opportunity to dazzle them, and lo and behold -- you reach a room full of people who were thinking just the same thing. The only opportunity the folks in that meetup came for is the one they already signed on for and bought into.

What do you come away from this with? A wheelbarrow full of "dead leads".

Luckily, this is 2008, not 1603, and you don't have to troll around town looking for folks interested in your business (and only getting mud on your shoes to show for it!).

We have this nifty thing, the INTERNET. I know, I know: they say MLM is a People business, not an Internet business.

But then again... how well are you really doing right now, using the strategies your upline taught you? You made your List of Friends and Family, right? You pored through all your old business contacts, former coworkers and college buddies, and even drummed up the email addresses of your favorite teachers from high school.

When you think about all that legwork, don't you feel like you're just going around with a wheelbarrow, shouting, "BRING OUT YOUR DEAD!"

"Ok," you say, "I get it. You can quit flogging the Monty Python analogy." And you're right, I can -- I can move on to the available solutions for the Dead Lead Problem.

How do you get leads?

#1 (the Traditional Solution) - BUY them. The more targetted, the better. E.g. you can get the phone numbers of people within the "age 25-35 single women with too many shoes" demographic if you like. Very effective; costly, but it's the type of investment that can save you a ton of your own time. The best source of targetted leads to buy? OppSeekingLeads.biz.

#2 (the Internet Marketing Solution) - Start a website. Put out an information product of some kind, like an ebook (you can get one ghostwritten if can outline your topic well enough). This product becomes a gateway through which you establish a dialogue with a list of customers, who by definition are interested in what you have to say. It helps if you're good at Search Engine Optimization (and if you're not, here's where should you be learning), and also at setting up Google Adwords -- more about that later.

#3 (the Leads Club Solution) - Join a well-established telephone-based marketing club that provides you with a mentor and training materials to turn you into a Leads-Seeking Missle. I joined a fantastic one last year, and while at the time I thought, "I can't actually afford this", it turned out that I couldn't afford not to! #4 (the Web 2.0 Solution) - Establish yourself on social networking websites like Facebook, Myspace, Yuwie, DirectMatches, Squidoo, and dozens of others. Use savvy new tools to automatically drive self-selected leads into your midst -- the kind of leads who are LOOKING for a new business opportunity and are interested in what you have to say. You know -- LIVE ONES.

If you're on a shoestring budget, the Web 2.0 solution is what you want, no question. My Monavie Success Story

Greetings! I'm Naomi, an independent distributor with Monavie.

In case you haven't yet heard, Monavie is a world-class company with a world-class nutritional product of the same name. The Monavie product is an antioxidant-rich juice based around the extraordinary Acai berry from the Amazon.

I love the product and have been drinking it regularly for about 2 years. But I never got interested in making a real business out of it until a year after being introduced to Monavie.

Like many of you out there, I had a huge pile of student loans, car payments, and medical debts looming like large rocks over my head. I started doing the math, and as your average garden-variety Employee, the math was NOT GOOD -- it didn't look like I was EVER going to get out of debt.

The worst is that I had what would be considered a Good Job! I was a software engineer at a fancy dot-com, getting paid more than my step-dad ever did. Yet I was never able to do the things that I imagined people in my tax bracket should be able to do. As my step-father used to say, "now you're really living the American dream!"

Well, that dream was NOT my dream! I made a hard and fast decision that day that I was going to go into business for myself. I started looking at the Monavie system, figuring it out, tuning into the leaders to see how they had built their success.

Within a few months, just in my spare time, I built my Monavie business from the ground up, to the point where I've already replaced my old income. On October 10, 2007, I lived my REAL dream: I got to FIRE MY BOSS!

So let me tell you, I'm having a WAY better time as my own boss. The people I meet are Top Notch, and the financial rewards, I don't mind telling you, have been exceptional as well!

I started this blog to talk about my progress as a distributor, to highlight what my team and I have been doing, and to talk about the Monavie product and the company in a public forum.
